Feminist Economics

The IEJ is committed to deepening the use and practice of feminist economics analysis. The two-week summer school, hosted in January 2020, in collaboration with the University of Witwatersrand and Trade and Industrial Policy Strategies (TIPS) exposed students to the theoretical and practical foundations of feminist economics, such as care work, social reproduction and gender budgeting.

To expand the network of feminist economists in South Africa and the region, the IEJ also hosted a series of webinars that foreground the ideas of emerging feminist economists grappling with understanding the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on women, and the economy more broadly. The Feminist Economics blog feature think-pieces and reflections on widening the space for feminist economic analysis to make its way into economics teaching, research, and policymaking.
